Sail  Lamp

Designing for a hypothetical MUJI brand hotel. Inspired by Toronto’s historic waterfront, the Sail evokes the cool breeze off the lake.

The sharp angles of the base contrast the billowing sails of the shade.  The simplicity of the design breaks down for shipping and makes for easy assembly.  On brand, this lamp is made from natural materials, local ash wood stained with black tea tannins and unbleached canvas.

Soft and unassuming by day, by night the Sail takes on the appearance of a ship passing in front of the sunset. The soft warm light penetrates the shade revealing the coarse dynamic weave of the canvas
